Autumn in New England

We just finished a week in the Vermont/New Hampshire area looking at the fall tree colors. They arrived a little later than normal this year. It was a drier and warmer summer than normal and that delayed the chemical processes that trigger the change. That worked out ok though because Cousin Anne was with us for the past two weeks and our travel schedule had us not arriving in the major color area of New England until this past week. But by then the colors were really starting to come out with the result that we were witnesses to a grand display of gold, yellow, red, purple and leftover shades of green. Whether driving down back country roads or along major interstates, seemingly every turn of the road presented a new explosion of color. Of particular beauty was the view of the leaves as seen from across lakes or ponds. That presented a double view as seen in both the direct view and the reflected view. It was also fun to walk through the woods and watch the leaves falling off the trees like snow and covering the ground with a rainbow of crunchy color underfoot. Truly it was so very easy to understand how poets and song writers would want to capture the beauty and serenity of the area with their works. Pictures in the gallery.
